IMPROVING YOUR PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

The best product photography tells a story.

  1. Study the subject

Get to know the brand and the product that you are photographing so that it makes sense

  2. Plan ahead

Brainstorm ideas, lay it all out, sketch it, whatever, but planning ahead will save you time and effort alter when you’re actually doing the photoshoot

  3. Lights, props, and scene

It’s important that your story be well lit. Good lighting is the most underrated, but critical piece to taking good photos. After the lighting, including props (or even lack there of) that make sense should help set your scene. Lastly, rearrange your scene multiple ways to get a variety of shots so you can make the best use of your time shooting.

  4. Apply a good edit

Just like the props, the edit should match the brand and the story you are trying to tell for this product. You wouldn’t do a bright and colorful edit for a dark and grungy product or vice versa. This is where critical thinking and creativity meet!

Here’s one of the product photos I did for Cape May Brewing Co’s Beer. Check out the video for the full behind the scenes!
